Yuman shares ‘sharp talent’ on “Forged in Fire”

A local craftsman is sharing his passion for creating one of a kind tools.

Douglas Loven is a Yuma resident who said his hobby for creating knives and blades started with a popular television show.

“It’s something that you can do by yourself-it’s relaxing.”

The History Channel’s ‘Forged in Fire’ is one of his and his children’s favorite tv shows. The purpose of the competition is to challenge different craftsmen to see who can create the sharpest blades in different scenarios.

After a little curiosity and few prototypes, Douglas would later become a contestant on the show and share his talent he said holds a tradition.

“It’s just you and a piece of steel and it’s just putting your time and sweat to create something that someone else is going to enjoy for their lifetime. Maybe they’ll pass it down to their kids.”

Although Douglas didn’t win his episode, he continues to perfect his craft to create long-lasting tools to be passed on for generations.
