Arizona DUI arrests up this holiday season

More officers were on the road this holiday season to take suspected impaired drivers off the road.

According to preliminary data released by the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, law enforcement made 1,926 DUI arrests from Thanksgiving to Christmas.

The data shows a 13 percent increase from the same period in 2017. Last year the state saw 1,705 DUI arrests.

Across the state, 12,187 law enforcement agencies took park in the DUI task force. Law enforcement made 53,154 traffic stops.

It’s not all bad news.

Officers came into contact with 18 percent more designated drivers than the year before. This year, there were 39 percent fewer citations for underage drinkers.
