Graffiti in neighborhoods raising concern
In the wake of the beautiful mural at the Del Sol Market being vandalized just two weeks ago, new reports of graffiti in neighborhoods around Yuma county have surfaced.
Good samaritans of Yuma county have volunteered to clean up the tagging and now the city has stepped in and have apparently painted over half of the reported graffiti locations. Lisa Hernandez shares how the increase in tagging in her neighborhood has pushed the neighbors to start a community watch program.
“In the area by Orange Grove Elementary school. From that location all the way down to County 17th and a half and County Avenue B. There has been an increase in graffiti on block walls, on stops signs, on fences. It takes a lot of money for a homeowner to put up a block wall. Thousands of dollars, so for someone to come in there and just paint on it and write whatever we don’t understand, it’s disturbing,” said Hernandez.
Hernandez adds that she filed an online form on the city’s website showing the city the areas that had been tagged. If you happen to witness anyone tagging and vandalizing any property, you are urged to take pictures of the individuals in the act and report it to the Yuma Police Department immediately.
