Arizona Western College to hold Welcome Day for TRIO students

The Arizona Western College TRIO Talent Search program is holding a Welcome Day for sixth-grade students starting out in the program.

The TRIO name was originated by these three programs, Upward Bound is the first program created in the 1960s .

There are now nine TRIO programs available through the McNair program, helping students get their master’s or doctorate degree.

While on their first field trip to the campus, students will have an opportunity to participate in an ice-breaker game of People Bingo, hear from a student panel from Arizona State University, and tour the campus.

The Talent Search program is a federally funded grant program through the U.S. Department of Education.

Its goal is to help students graduate from high school and continue on to college, ultimately to earn a post-secondary degree.

For the college level program, they hope to help them complete their associate’s degree then transfer on to another university to complete their degree.

As part of the higher education act, providing these support services would help people who would not normally have access to higher education.

Students that can benefit are potential first-generation college students, and/or income eligible.
