Meth found in spare tire at Downtown Calexico Port of Entry

A methamphetamine smuggling attempt was stopped at the Downtown Calexico Port of Entry Monday night, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

CBP officers said they discovered 50 packages, worth an estimated $178,500, of methamphetamine inside the 32-year-old female’s spare tire.

Officers stopped the Desert Hot Spring’s resident driving a 2004 Chevy Trailblazer and sent her for a secondary inspection after noticing inconsistencies in her plan of travel, according to CBP.

CBP said they utilized the Port’s imaging system and the canine-on-duty.

The woman was arrested and then turned over to Homeland Security Investigation, according to CBP. They also said is now behind bars at the Imperial Valley County Jail.
