Son charged after father’s body found near California trail

Investigators say an 18-year-old man killed his father by throwing rocks at him and stomping on his head near a Southern California hiking trail.

The Orange County Register reports Maximilian Ludwig was charged Tuesday with murder. It wasn’t immediately known if he has an attorney.

Fifty-nine-year-old Christopher Ludwig died Friday in a wooded area of Laguna Niguel.

Prosecutors say the victim’s son called authorities after the killing and was arrested at the scene.

The murder charge comes with a special circumstances allegation of lying-in-wait. Detectives say the younger Ludwig lead his father to the trail, where he attacked him.

He’s being held without bail.
