Calexico City Council allegedly violated Brown Act
Calexico residents said City Council violated the Brown Act by discussing city issues out of a proper public forum.
Residents claim three council members discussed the cannabis issue. They said the council members agreed during that discussion to vote in approval of the Cannabis retail sales expansion the following Wednesday during the regular session. Residents said this was done without first bringing it to the public for open discussion. They said it violates the Brown Act. They plan to file a formal complaint with the District Attorney.
Council Member Bill Hodge said they’re looking into the matter.
“This is what’s got me concerned. And if I had – and I’m being honest – if I had thought about it at all facts, I would have not, knowing that there were two others speaking, I would have not said anything,” Hodge said.
The residents plan to block the voting on the cannabis expansion issue until the alleged violation complaint is resolved.
