Border Patrol in riot gear ready to stop the caravan
Border Patrol was in full riot gear at around the Calexico Downtown Port of Entry on Friday evening.
There were reports that a group from the migrant caravan had already made contact with Customs agents and had been turned back.
About 30 or more Border Patrol agents and some military personnel received a briefing across the new port of entry, some in full riot gear, some on horseback, also wearing riot gear, before fanning out across the border area.
BP officials said they were preparing to stop any illegal entry from members of the caravan. They said they were ready to protect local residents from any situation which would put their safety at risk.
There were helicopters flying overhead as part of the operation.
