The Yuma Police Department is encouraging residents to revisit safety tips during the holiday season.

“We see vehicles burglary increase, we see burglaries increase. It’s that season and people are out shopping more, but they’re leaving valuables in their car,” said Franklin.

She added some of the safety tips for the community to keep in mind as they run their holiday errands.

“Don’t carry large amounts of cash on you. If you’re a woman carry your purse tightly to you, wear a shoulder strap in, don’t leave it alone and don’t turn your back away from her belongings,” said Franklin.

YPD also said that if your ordering things online to make sure to have shipped to your work or where you know you will be at, at the time of the shipment arrival to avoid belongings being stolen.
