Woman linked to failed smuggling attempt arrested

Over the weekend, an 18-year-old woman linked to a failed smuggling attempt was arrested by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Port of San Luis.

According to CBP officials, officers referred a woman, of San Luis, Ariz., to a secondary inspection of her Ford sedan when she tried to enter the United States early Saturday morning. After a CBP canine alerted officers, 90 packages of methamphetamine were discovered inside of the vehicle’s bumpers. The narcotics, that weighed almost 99 pounds, were valued at about $297,000.

Officers seized both the drugs and vehicle. The woman was arrested and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
