Mad for “DAYS”

We all love a little drama in our lives and in the hit soap opera series “Days of our Lives” you never know what might unfold.

News 11’s Madison Kimbro got to visit the daytime TV set and meet some of the stars that have been on the show for decades.

Can we say it together? Like sands through the hour glass. So are the Days of our Lives.

Alright, so we are here with Suzanne Rogers, you play Maggie Horton but now it’s Maggie Kiriakis.

Kristian Alfonso.

This is James Reynolds, you may recognize him from “Days of Our Lives.” One of the most iconic characters of the series, Abe Carver. How are you? “I’m doing great!”

What do you think it is about Days that really draws the viewer in, that keeps them guessing, that keeps them wanting to watch?

“Well, I think that first off, it represents a family,” said Alfonso.

“Whether it’s the Horton’s, the Kiriakis’, the Brady’s. I think our audience really likes to say “Oh, I remember when,” said Rogers.

Right now we’re celebrating it’s 53rd year.

“It is, yeah. 1965. I think the show debuted in November. All that I knew, because the show had been on for you know, 20 years or so when I came on. I always remembered the hour glass and Mac Carey’s voice. The fact that these characters stay with you year after year and decade after decade. Then the audience is invested in them emotionally. They invite us into their homes,” said Reynolds.

“When I first came on the show, it was a half an hour. Now it’s an hour. There was no such thing as digital on the cam, on a phone or, you know, it was just there. The sets were smaller, we had a smaller cast. We went to an hour and the cast went from 12 basically to almost 40.

“You know, when I started on the show, we were always two weeks ahead. So, we shot the show completely differently in those days. We would shoot one entire episode a day.”

Why have you stayed on Days? Why have you continued to play Hope?

“It’s the greatest character I have ever played. It is, I have to say, such a multi-faceted character that I really enjoy playing her,” said Alfonso.

Okay so we’re going to play our game. Yumans love “Days of Our Lives.” Big watchers of the show and so I want to give you a little Yuma trivia.

Yuma is the blank capital of the world. Is it A. Beer B. Lettuce C. Wheat or D. Cashews?

“Okay, I’ll say cashews,” said Rogers.

“Cashews?” said Alfonso.

“India grows a lot of cashews so the answer would be lettuce,” said Reynolds.

The correct answer is lettuce.

“What? In Arizona?” said Alfonso.
