Imperial County residents try to beat voter registration deadline

Election officials at the Imperial County Registrar of Voters were ready to handle residents rushing to beat the deadline to register to vote Monday.

“Everybody knows that this is crunch time. They’ve come in either they’re wanting to make sure that their record is in order or they’re coming to register by the deadline. So that they don’t have any provisional issues when they go to the polls on election day,” said Registrars of Voters Office Clerk, Christine Beltran.

Residents who missed the voter registration deadline can do so online Monday before midnight.

Debbie Porter, with the Registrars of Voters, said, “They have until 11:59 to register to vote online also.”

But new residents to the county can still go to the registrars’ office to vote on election day.

“Somebody who moved in the county prior to the last 14 days prior to the election, they’re not registered in this county, they can come in and register. Register to vote that day and vote in this office provisionally,” said Porter.

In a nutshell, election officials said they won’t turn voters away on election day.
