Youth town hall to discuss law and public safety in Yuma County

The Yuma Youth Town Hall is bringing together students and exhibitors from around Yuma County to discuss law and public safety at Arizona Western College on Friday, October 19.

More than 150 students from Yuma Union High School District are expected to attend.

The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Schoening Conference Center.

This is a collaborative event between AWC, YUHSD, and Southwest Arizona Town Hall and the purpose of the forum is to create a culture of unity in diversity and moderating skills, which are essential in learning how to work with varying ideas.

The event provides an opportunity for the up-and-coming generations to practice this skill during a discussion about relevant topics occurring in society.

Students will also have an opportunity to talk with exhibitors about careers, internships, and job shadowing opportunities they currently have for students.

“This Yuma Youth Town Hall gives high school students a voice to the community on their opinions about topics that directly affect them,” said Dr. Linda Elliott-Nelson, Vice President for Learning Services at Arizona Western College.

It is the second consecutive year that the YYTH topic has been aligned with the Arizona Town Hall. The 111th statewide town hall will take place in Phoenix next month.

Members of the Yuma community will share some of the information and advocacy presented by students at the statewide meeting.
