Agents arrest sex offender who entered U.S. illegally
Border Patrol agents arrested a Honduran national who is a convicted sex offender after he attempted to enter the United States illegally Wednesday morning.
Agents assigned to the Calexico Border Patrol Station caught the man crossing near the Calexico Port of Entry just after midnight. Through a records check, the man was identified as 23-year-old Nicson Valenzuela-Redondo who had a previous felony conviction. Valenzuela-Redondo was heading to Riverside, Calif., according to Border Patrol.
“This man, who was convicted of rape, will be going back to prison,” said Chief Patrol Agent, Gloria I. Chavez. “The residents of Riverside are safer now, thanks to our agent’s efforts.”
Valenzuela-Redondo previously spent three years in prison and is now a pre-registered sex offender. He will be criminally prosecuted for re-entering the U.S. after being removed as a convicted sex offender.
El Centro Sector Border Patrol has apprehended 38 convicted sex offenders in its fiscal year of 2018.
