Comit de Bien Estar celebrates 20 years of provider support

Saturday morning, Comite de Bien Estar celebrated day cares and schools that have been supporting their program for 20 years now.

Over 100 children and parents receive support from Comite de Bien Estar whether it be through nutrition services or culture and reaction actives.

The program also helps train low income women to provide home day care for up to six children.

These women receive training in nutrition, in-home assistance and get income supplements for nutritious meals.

The Comite has a mission to improve the nutrition of children among the San Luis community.

The program has over 400 providers that aid in educating families on how to practice healthy lifestyles with their children.

According to Tony Reyes who is the executive director of the program, over 2,500 children are taken care of through this program.

Reyes says that it has been difficult to change the mindset of the Mexican culture in what healthy eating means but hopes the Comite can change that.
