Arizona initiative could ensure service taxes won’t be added

A new ballot measure Arizonans could close the door to the future of paying taxes on services.

Prop 126, also known as the Protect Arizona Taxpayers Act, is an initiative created to add an amendment to the Arizona Constitution to avoid adding taxes on services, according to their website.

Those who want Arizonans to vote yes are asking for the amendment to be added to avoid any future service taxes as there are not any promised at this time, according to Shelley Ostrowski, a realtor who became involved with the proposition through the Arizona Realtors Association.

Those looking for a ‘no’ vote claim that the economy is becoming more service-based. They said that as the economy shifts service taxes will suffice as a way to sustain public safety and education sales taxes fall, according to David Lujan, Director for Arizona Center for Economic Progress.
