McPherson Pass to reopen during construction of new bypass road

Hikers, tourists and just plain outdoor enthusiasts in Yuma County will be happy to know that the road leading to McPherson Pass is now reopened.

Yuma County has partnered with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife office as well as the owner of th Castle Dome Museum to reopen that road.

According to the Yuma County website, the road has been closed for about a year now because the Castle Dome owner, Allen Armstrong, was dealing with visitors who would disobey speed signs causing excessive dust to blow onto his property.

Armstrong closed that road leading to the KOFA range in November 2017.

In September of 2017, the Yuma County Board of Supervisors worked together with Armstrong to pass a resolution to begin construction on a bypass road around the museum to McPherson Pass.

While the planning and construction of the road begins, Armstrong has opened back up the road on his property to get to the KOFA range.

Yuma County Public Works Department have created signs that let visitors know that the speed limit is now 15 miles per hour.

In addition to keeping a slower speed, drivers must close the gates behind them when entering and exiting the area.

The road is now open and will remain open until construction is complete April 30, 2019.

Throughout the year, US Fish and Wildlife will design and construct the new bypass by Fall of 2019.
