Four arrested in human smuggling attempt

Four individuals involved in a human smuggling attempt were arrested early Monday morning, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Agents assigned to the Wellton station stopped a red 2002 Ford Explorer at approximately 7:16 a.m. when the vehicle bypassed the immigration checkpoint by traveling through Dome Valley.

CBP said the driver and passenger refused to cooperate with agents and a canine alerted to the cargo area of the vehicle.

Agents observed movement under a blanket and later discovered two illegal aliens.

Both the driver and passenger, both U.S. citizens, were arrested for bringing in and harboring certain aliens.
