Support local businesses during the “Shop Yuma” event

A lot of people don’t realize this, but buying locally is one of the biggest ways to give back to your community.

Starting on September 20th, the 10th Annual Shop Yuma campaign begins. It’s a campaign that encourages all residents of Yuma to spend $20 at a local shop. That includes everything from shopping for food to going to a clothing store to getting your nails done. This campaign that started 10 years ago has really made an impact on Yuma throughout the years.

“Local businesses are so very generous to our non-profits. They are so very generous to our kids, to our schools. When we shop and shop locally, you’re saying I want to make a difference,” said John Courtis, the Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce.

For its 10th anniversary, there will be a Shop Yuma Bingo Card.

On the card is a variety of different local shops around town. Players are encouraged to visit the businesses on the Bingo Card between Sept. 19 through 29 and get their cards stamped. Once you get five in a row or five diagonally, you will win a prize provided by the Yuma Sun. Completely blacked out cards will be entered into a drawing for $250 cash sponsored by the Yuma County Chamber of Commerce.

The drawing will be held at the Community Business Expo on Saturday, September 29 at the Yuma Civic Center. The event is free to attend.
