Border Patrol agents arrest convicted child sex offender

Agents at the Blythe Station arrested two Mexican nationals during an immigration stop on Interstate 40 and later learned one man was previously convicted of a sex offense against a child Monday night, according to Yuma Sector Border Patrol.

At around 10:15 p.m., agents stopped a westbound Nissan Altima occupied by two brothers, ages 39 and 35, and both illegally present in the United States.

Agents arrested the men and transported them to the Blythe Station for further processing.

Record checks found that the passenger, Jose Flores-Oviedo, had multiple felony convictions that include a sex offense against a child (fondling) in 2002 in Sandusky, Ohio; as well as domestic violence out of Madera, California, in 2004.

Flores-Oviedo was also convicted for assault with a deadly weapon, causing “Great Bodily Injury” to a firefighter in San Francisco in 2010, for which he spent four years in prison.

Flores stated that he and his brother, who currently resided in Madera, were traveling back to California after a weekend stay in Las Vegas.

Both are being processed for removal proceedings.
