San Luis man accused of aggravated assault pleads not guilty

The man charged with aggravated assault in July appeared in court Wednesday, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Raul Tejeda, 28, was ordered by the judge to appear back in court on October 10 for his final management conference.

Tejeda is being charged with criminal damage, kidnapping, burglary and unlawful flight from law enforcement.

A San Luis man charged with aggravated assault plead not guilty to the charges in front of a Yuma County Superior Court judge Monday.

Raul Tejeda, 28, is also being charged with criminal damage, kidnapping, burglary and unlawful flight from law enforcement.

Tejeda, who is in custody, was charged for aggravated assault from an incident that happened on July 19.

Authorities said Tejeda forced his way into a person’s home around 9:29 p.m. in the 400 block of South May Avenue. Tejeda threatened to kill the victim and assaulted her multiple times, according to police.

The victim was able to escape after five hours and called law enforcement.

Authorities said Tejeda fled the scene in his red 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee, purposefully colliding with a marked Yuma County Sheriff’s Office patrol car.

Tejeda was arrested after a tip lead police to the Del Sol Market on S. 4th Avenue and a perimeter was set up around the store. Tejeda was found hiding in an employee bathroom.

Tejeda’s next court appearance is set for September 12.
