September is Hunger Action Month

September is Hunger Action Month, and with families in the area wondering when they will have their next full meal, the Yuma Community Food Bank is asking for help.

In Yuma County alone, there are over 30,000 people a month who are considered ‘food insecure’. With the holiday season right around the corner, September serves as a month of action to donate different food items.

“It’s a constant community outreach,” said Michelle Markley, who serves as the Community Engagement Manager. “The numbers don’t ever stop, we serve around four to five hundred people a day, so the need is still there-we always need that influx of donations.”

With buying powers through the organization ‘Feeding America’, donating just one dollar can feed up to nine families in Yuma County. To be part of the fight against hunger, you can post a selfie with the color ‘orange’ with the hashtags #Hungeractionmonth or #helpfeedyuma. You can also contact the Yuma Community Food Bank for more ways you can donate for the month of September and into the holiday season.
