Woman arrested at Calipatria State Prison for attempted smuggling

A woman was arrested at the Calipatria State Prison on Saturday, August 25, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

CDCR said the visiting staff were alerted when 33-year-old Amanda Lea Silk was observed acting suspicious and avoiding the staff members questions.

Silk was visiting an inmate convicted of Involuntary Manslaughter and Use of Firearm and after questioning Silk, a visiting officer was able to convince her to relinquish three bindles wrapped in a white latex plastic.

After the Investigative Service Unit Staff responded to the area she relinquished two additional bindles.

All five were tested positive for THC and had a combined weight of six point eight grams with an estimated prison value of $2,000.

Staff took custody of the inmate and medically cleared him to return back to his housing unit.

Silk was booked into the Imperial County Jail and is facing felony charges. If convicted she will face three to five years in prison.
