Dual enrollment program prepares students for college

Arizona Western C ollege is partnering with Yuma Union High school district to provide new learning opportunities for students.

AWC is giving students a chance to begin their college careers while still in high school with the dual enrollment program.

Dual enrollment allows students to gain both high school and college credit while still enrolled in high school.

AWC intends to use the dual enrollment program to ensure students make a fluid transition between high school and college.

In order to help students with the transition, there is an office located at the YUHSD campus to help students get enrolled, stay on track of courses, and stay interested in completing a college education.

There is a growing list of courses that are offered such as English 101, S panish courses, and administration of justice courses.

These courses are taught on the high school campus by a staff member that meets the qualifications set by AWC.

Often times, many of these dual enrollment professors teach at both the high school and at AWC.

AWC representatives are on YUHSD campuses every Monday to answer questions students may have.

These representatives are also available to educate students on financial aid, scholarship applications and how to fill out enrollment forms.

AWC does not want to let funds be a roadblock that gets in the way of students taking these courses.

Enrollment is $25 per credit hour and if that amount is still difficult for a family, private scholarships may be available.
