ADOT and GEICO offering drivers Safe Phone Zones

As many drivers gear up to hit the Arizona highways this holiday weekend, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is making strides to curb distracting driving.

Through a partnership with GEICO, ADOT is encouraging the public to use the 14 highway rest area locations named as “Safe Phone Zones”. The rest area locations allow drivers to pull off the highway and use their phones for calling, texting, and accessing mobile apps.

“Texting, surfing the web or using apps, even for what seems like a split second, endangers you, your passengers and others on the highway,” said ADOT Director John Halikowski. “Pulling into a rest area is a great way to get off the road and safely use your smartphone or tablet.”

The signs, set along the highways leading to the rest areas and within the rest areas themselves, feature the GEICO Gecko image.
