Mexican authorities release images of San Luis tunnel

Mexico’s Secretary of National Defense released new images of the border tunnel found in San Luis, Ariz. that connects with a property located in San Luis Rio Colorado, Sonora, Mexico.

According to the Secretary of National Defense, the tunnel was located at Carretera del Valle Highway between Obregon and Carlos G. Calles streets at the border of Mexico and the United States last week. The tunnel is estimated to be 230 meters long, according to Mexico’s Secretary of National Defense (MSND).

MSDN said the tunnel is presumed to have been used to smuggle illicit drugs.

The Mexican Army along with federal police are also assisting with the investigation.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection confirmed that a tunnel was found inside a vacant building on San Luis Plaza Drive last Wednesday.

U.S. Homeland Security Investigations was conducting an active investigation at the time at the vacant building that used to serve as a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant.
