Nine-year-old takes off in golf cart and crashes into vehicle

A nine-year-old boy took off in a golf cart and later crashed into a vehicle in the El Centro area on Wednesday, according to the Department of California Highway Patrol.

The boy took a golf cart left parked on Desert Shore Ave at Palm Ave without the owner’s permission and began driving west onto a private dirt lot.

The cart was heading toward Palo Verde Drive at an unknown speed and so was a vehicle at the time.

CHP said the boy lost control of the golf cart and traveled onto the roadway behind a large bush. The vehicle was passing by at this time and the left front of the golf cart struck the left side of the vehicle.

After this, the minor left the scene on foot and the woman driving the vehicle took a photo of the boy.

CHP said he was located by law enforcement 30 minutes later riding his bicycle.

After being treated by medics he was released to his mother.

The collision is under investigation.
