Suspect in officer-involved shooting appears in court

One of the suspects accused of exchanging fire with police in Yuma appeared in Yuma Justice Court Thursday afternoon.

23-year-old Luis German Juarez is facing four felony charges that include 2nd degree attempted murder, dangerous drug possession, possession/use of a weapon by a prohibited person, and possession/use of a weapon in a drug offense.

Judge R. Erin Farrar set Juarez’s bond at $250,000 cash only. Juarez’s next court date is set for August 6.

Yuma police responded to a graffiti call nearby 22nd Street and Madison Avenue Wednesday night.

The graffiti was ruled to be gang-related by YPD.

Police were approached by Juarez and a 17-year-old boy. Both suspects were accused of firing at officers and officers returned fire, according to YPD.

YPD said the suspects fled on foot but were caught.

The 17-year-old suspect was injured during the exchange of fire. No officers were injured, according to YPD.
