Gadsden elementary district teachers prepare for new school year

School is back in session and the students are not the only ones preparing for the new year.

“So we have a variety of sessions so it really depends on where you are in terms of what you are teaching and how many years of experience you have taught,” said professional development coordinator, Vanessa Gonzalez.

Teachers went into training this week to prepare themselves for the 2018-2019 school year.

“We did two days of our new teacher induction and we welcomed everyone who is going to be teaching in our industry whether they were long-term, subs, emergency certified, intern or certified, we brought them all in a team about 36 and we got them started,” shared Gonzalez.

The new teachers joined in the fun with the rest of the educators this week.

“This week brought them back to join the rest of the teachers here we are just under 300 teachers here and we are working to build their content knowledge and build more strategies so we can take them back to the classroom,” added Gonzalez.

Local teacher Denise Palencia has been around for ten years and she shared the training she has received each year helps get her back on track.

“What is so special is that you can impact student lives…students usually come back to me they ask for advice…or ask for letters of recommendations…so that’s how you know you made an impact on those students,” shared Palencia.

Students from the Gadsden Elementary District begin the new school year on August 6th.
