Yuma-area taxi driver reported missing

A Yuma-area taxi driver was reported missing early Monday morning after going to pick up a customer in Somerton.

The customer called in at about 2:30 a.m. but Guillermo Sotelo’s boss, Mario Rodriguez, said he does not know if Sotelo ever made it there.

“He never called in to say if he had picked up and where he was going,” said Rodriguez.

Rodriguez said that he has been urging his drivers to check in once they reach their destination.

Crazy 8’s Cab Co. has had issues in the past with pickups, but never like this.

“We had other situations in the past, customers not paying. We’ve had a couple drivers get robbed in the years that we’ve been here. But other than that, nothing like this has ever happened,” said Rodriguez.

Sotelo was driving a Honda Odyssey with a “4 ACES” logo on the side doors, said Rodriguez.

Sotelo is described as a Hispanic man with a heavy accent. He wears glasses and typically dresses in a button-up shirt while working, according to Mario Rodriguez with Crazy 8’s Cab Co.

The initial missing person’s report was filed by Sotelo’s wife, Rodriguez added.

Sotelo has worked for Crazy 8 taxi company for the last five years and makes the daily commute to work from San Luis, Mexico.

The taxi service does not have a GPS tracking service inside the vehicles but is now making efforts to change that.
