Driver airlifted to hospital after two-vehicle collision

One driver airlifted to a local hospital after a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Carter Road and Forrester Road in Imperial Tuesday morning.

California Highway Patrol (CHP) said the collision happened at around 6:05 a.m.

30-year-old Emily Suarez was traveling westbound on Carter Road in a 2009 Nissan and came to a stop at Forrester Road, said CHP. 54-year-old Martin Castrellon was traveling northbound in a Jeep on Forrester Road just south of Carter Road at about 55 miles per hour.

Suarez told authorities she looked left and right at the intersection and then drove her Nissan into the path of Castrellon’s Jeep, who she failed to see.

Authorities said the front of the Jeep collided with the front left side of the Nissan causing both vehicles to spin and come to a rest just north of Carter Road. Both vehicles sustained major front-end damage. Suarez was airlifted to Desert Regional Medical Center for further treatment.

Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts and sustained moderate injuries.

The collision remains under investigation.
