Locals react to extreme heat

With the desert southwest reaching extreme temperatures, surviving the heat is always questioned.

The City of Yuma is offering 12 different cooling and water locations for the public to stay hydrated and remain cool for the summer.

“I don’t think about it,” said a Yuma resident who rides his motorcycle regardless of the triple digit weather. “I put my mind somewhere else and deal with it.”

Other locations offering help to the public and the homeless is the Yuma Crossroads Mission where free water is offered. The Yuma County Libraries are also extending their hours for anyone looking for a place to cool down.

“I think we can keep that lovely ‘winter weather’ in mind when we go through the warmer weather,” said Sarah Wisdom with Yuma County Library. Wisdom also said how access to the internet, movies, and other activities they provide makes the library more of a ‘hot spot’ in the summer.

“I think Yuma knows how to deal with it. People tend to still be friendly and accommodating to help each other out during this warm weather,” Wisdom added.
