Police arrest suspect in Metro PCS burglary

El Centro Police arrested early this morning a suspect in a rash of 16 local commercial burglaries including the one at a Metro PCS store.

Police said 28-year-old Jorge Alberto Ramirez from El Centro was spotted driving a car at Third and Holt Street around 4 in the morning.

Ramirez exited the car and ran. Police chased and arrested him.

Police searched Ramirez’s car and found a firearm. They didn’t say if it was loaded or not.

Ramirez is charged with burglary, possession of stolen property, being a felon with a firearm, and resisting arrest. His bail is $50,000 dollars.

Detective Adrian Chilpa said there may be more suspects at large in the rash of burglaries and are asking the community for help in identifying them.

“We believe we have one of the key suspects in custody now. He was just taken into custody today. We’re still investigating possible leads with additional suspects, because, yes, we do believe there are multiple suspects involved. We did post on our department page suspect information, photographs,” Chilpa said.

Police recommend that businesses install a security system to protect their property.
