Humane Society encourages community to bring in pets

The Humane Society of Yuma is at maximum capacity but they are still encouraging the community to bring in pets that have been found by citizens of Yuma.

They don’t have specific statistics yet, but they are advising owners ot come to the shelter and look for their animals.

The staff and volunteers are trying as hard as they can to get identification photos of all stray animals up on the website, social media accounts and are attempting to contact owners.

Impound and boarding fees accumulated through July 8th are being waived for animals that come into the shelter from July 4, through July 6.

“Space is precious here at the animal shelter and as much as we can try to prepare and be proactive about the 4 th of July, it is always a difficult holiday for us here at the Humane Society of Yuma and we can’t predict how many animals will come in” said, Lana Shapiro, Director of Development.

When the Humane Society of Yuma reaches capacity, life and death decisions have to be made and to avoid this, the organization is asking for the community’s help to reunite people with their pets.

“Help us, help you! We want to have enough space and resources to save them all, but we cannot do this alone,” said Lana Shapiro, Director of Development.
