Getting your pet license in Yuma County

With the Fourth of July coming up, firework celebrations can often cause pets to end up in the animal shelter. And with the higher chances of your pet getting out on the loose, the Humane Society of Yuma wants to remind everyone of the importance of getting your pet licensed.

If you are a Yuma County resident and need to renew your pet’s license or get your pet’s license, you need to know that there is a new change that went into effect this week.

Instead of having to renew your pet’s license by March 31st, you will now have to renew by the date at which you got the license.

The hope is that this change will make it easier for pet owners to be consistent in renewing their pet licenses.

“To have your pet licensed means that your pet is vaccinated for rabies. And though we haven’t seen a lot of causes of rabies in Yuma County that is 100 percent because we have a community of people who are diligent about having their pets vaccinated for rabies,” Annette Lagunas, the Executive Director at HSOY said.

We have seen an increase in rabies across the state.

According to the Arizona Department of Health Services, 90 wild animals were tested positive for having rabies just within 2018. That is 27 more cases this year than there were this time last year.
