YPD: 14-year-old boy injured in hit-and-run accident

A 14-year-old boy was injured after being involved in a hit-and-run accident Wednesday afternoon, police said.

According to Yuma Police Department, the incident happened in the area of 20th Street and 45th Avenue. A 14-year-old boy was crossing the intersection and was hit by a white four-door passenger vehicle that fled the scene instantly.

Police said the teen suffered minor injuries but parents in the area are still feeling concerned when it comes to their children’s safety during the summer.

“There’s a lot of kids just walking around ’cause its summer vacation and it’s their way to unwind,” said Jasmine Pena, a mother in the area who says it’s the drivers’ responsibility to be safe when they’re on the road. “It starts with us. Just be a safe driver out there and always be careful with schools around.”

According to YPD, the driver is described as a heavy-set woman with light brown hair.

This incident is still under investigation.
