57 illegal immigrants found by Border Patrol during heatwave

Ajo Border Patrol agents found 57 illegal immigrants, including an underage pregnant woman, during a heatwave west of Lukeville, Ariz. Friday afternoon.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection said agents were notified of the group’s location after a call received from the 9-1-1 center in Sonora, Mexico. People from the group called asking for help and stated they had crossed the border illegally

With the assistance of CBP’s Air and Marine Operations, Border Patrol agents found 21 adults, 36 children, 17 of which were unaccompanied, including a one-year-old toddler.

According to CBP, the group comprised of people from Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. Several immigrants appeared to be dehydrated. Medically-trained agents assessed all the immigrants with only one requiring further medical attention. Border Patrol’s EMT’s provided IV fluids for an underage pregnant woman who was transported to a local hospital for further treatment.

Agents provided everyone with water, food, and transported them to the Ajo station for processing. CBP said temperatures were 108 degrees when the group was found.
