Helping Ian: Car club steps in to help local boy

Ruben Aleman, Vice President for the Aztlan Car Club in Imperial County, approached his club with a request. A local family asked for Aleman’s help and in turn, he brought the story to the club’s council meeting. They then decided on a way to help and that quickly sparked the idea of a show and shine.

Ian Joel is a nine-year-old boy who was diagnosed with Adrenoleukodystrophy (X-linked ALD) which is a progressive disease that affects the brain.

Aleman tells us that when Ian’s mother had approached him. He decided to put himself in her shoes since he has a child of Ian’s age made it. He then made it his mission to help.

The Aztlan Car Club has been helping their communities for years and has chapters throughout Southern California.

On Saturday, June 23, 2018 , the club will host their event at the City of Brawley’s Gereaux Park located on Eastern and Adler Avenue. The event is free to the public, but donations are always appreciated. Those looking to show off their toys will have to arrive early to set up and will have to pay a registration fee. The event kicks off at 4 p.m. and will end at 9 p.m .
