At around 9:32 a.m., Yuma County Sheriff’s Office met with the reporting party who stated they saw the suspect, Douglas E. Severson, striking his dog and restricting it from breathing. The canine suffered injuries to his snout and muzzle causing him to bleed.

Severson, a Yuma resident, was arrested and booked at the Yuma County Detention Center for one felony county of animal cruelty.

“We will not tolerate any type of animal abuse in our community. Those caught will be arrested and charged for their crime,” said Sheriff Leon Wilmot.
