Safe tips for drivers for the summer

With monsoon season coming and extreme temperatures continuing to rise, drivers should take precaution before hitting the road.

Sergeant Travis Turner with the Arizona Department of Safety said besides the weather conditions, the biggest factor in accidents is sometimes the speed. He advises drivers to check their tires, windshield wipers, and fluids under the hood of the vehicle before taking off on the road.

“Always wear your seatbelt and ultimately. If you don’t make it there safely it’s not worth it trying to chance whatsoever. Slow down, wear your seatbelt, check out your vehicle, get the windshield wipers up to par as well. Check the tread on your vehicle ’cause hydro planning does happen and you want to make sure you slow down. Just because it says 60 or 75 doesn’t mean it’s safe under certain circumstances.”
