Suspect sought after shooting leaves one injured

The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a suspect linked to a shooting that left one injured at West Main Canal and Riverside Drive Thursday evening.

YCSO deputies learned that the victims fishing on the West Main Canal noticed a grey Jeep Cherokee driving towards them. The driver of the Cherokee exited the vehicle and shot multiple rounds towards the victims’ direction. The suspect then fled the area towards the Donovan Estates area.

Authorities later found the vehicle in the 8400 block of Yavapai Lane. A warrant has been issued for the suspect’s arrest with the assistance of the Yuma Police Department Enforcement Team.

One victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center and later flown to a Phoenix hospital.

The suspect has been identified as 24-year-old Gatrick Salas-Fernandez, of Yuma. He is described as 5 foot, 4 inches tall, 140 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. Salas-Fernandez is wanted and is considered armed and dangerous.

An investigation is currently underway. Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Salas-Fernandez is asked to contact the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office at 928-783-4427 or 78-CRIME to remain anonymous.
