Fire at Tropicana Motel leads to evacuation

A fire reported at the Tropicana Motel led to the evacuation of all tenants Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Yuma Fire Department, they received reports of smoke coming out from one of the rooms at the Tropicana Motel located at 2115 S. 4th Avenue around 5:45 p.m.

Fire personnel removed sections of the ceiling to get to a fire burning above several rooms in the attic shared by ten rooms and an office.

Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire and extinguished it.

There were no injuries reported and fire damage was contained to the attic area, according to Yuma Fire.

The American Red Cross was called to assist but lodging for those affected were available in other rooms at the hotel.

The fire is still under investigation.
