USBP: Sex offender caught trying to re-enter the U.S.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents arrested a sex offender Tuesday near the Andrade Port of Entry.

U.S. Border Patrol agents say they found a group of three migrants who illegally crossed the border east of the port. After agents took the individuals to the station, record checks revealed one man in the group was a registered sex offender.

They say 37-year-old Juan Nunez-Tavarez, a Mexican national had a previous conviction from 2003 out of El Paso, Texas, for having sexual contact with a child. Nunez served two years in prison for his crime.

He was previously removed four times from the U.S. Agents say he will now be prosecuted for re-entry of a convicted felon and faces jail time.
