John Boemer legacy lives through golf tournament

The Annual John Boemer Memorial Golf Tournament will take off at 7 a.m. this Saturday, May 12th at the Yuma Golf and Resort. This event benefits Arizona Children’s Association (AzCA) every year.

In its 21st year, this event will continue to raise funds for the local families and children in Yuma involved in the Arizona Children’s Association program.

John Boemer’s legacy lives on. Boemer passed away in the fall of 2012, but his dedication to the families and children of Yuma is a tradition his family has decided to continue.

Cori Rico, the program director for the Arizona Children’s Association in Yuma and a foster care mother herself, said, “When they see John Boemer, they do not only know what John Boemer’s legacy is, but also what he has done. We have awesome raffle prizes and businesses in Yuma that are continuing to give back.”

This year’s golf tournament is sold out. Thirty-six teams will contribute to the local program of AzCA. Their goal this year is to raise $25,000.

“There are so many additional needs we know as parents as well as professionals, these children do not just need food, water, and shelter, often times they need additional resources,” Rico added.

Those additional resources include camps for children who have special needs and sending families on educational trips.

Through the John Boemer Golf Tournament, many opportunities have become available to several children and families in the program.
