Three new features at the Creative Playground

Bigger, Better and Safer. Those are the words to describe the new and improved Stewart Vincent Wolfe Creative Playground at west wetlands park.

You may remember back in December of 2015, an arsonist who still remains on the loose set the playground on fire making the once kid friendly area, a total loss. Thanks to insurance and major donations, the creative playground has since been revamped along with three new features.

“On the three different pieces of playground apparatus that we have. We’ve got the tri-net, which is over to my left and then right in front of me, we’ve got the comfort swing and then to the right, we’ve got the big zipline. It’s two bays, it’s a railing system, where children can either stand on it or sit on it, said Debbie Wendt, Yuma Parks and Rec Director.

The tri-net climbing structure is nearly 18ft tall and can support up to 60 kids climbing all at once. Another reason why “safer” is a key word used when describing this playground is due to the new security cameras installed along with the new fencing that lines the park. The ribbon cutting ceremony takes place, May 12th at 10am and is open to the public.
