News 11 Weather Authority: Bracing for excessive heat

June 11th, 2021

YUMA, Ariz., (KYMA, KECY) - The high end mercury surge begins!

A strong high pressure ridge to the Southeast is only just beginning to expand, as we will likely feel our daytime high mercury turn up to at least the 110 degree point this weekend.

The increase will continue to be felt next week, as the National Weather Service will enact an Excessive Heat Warning for our area (and most of the Southwest region of the United States) from next Monday through Friday.

If the heat turns up any faster than projected, don't be surprised if the warning actually starts on Sunday.

During that period of time, our daytime temps can land anywhere between 107 to 120 degrees.
