Department of Justice mandates federal agents to use body cameras

(KYMA, KECY/ CNN) - The Department of Justice is ending a policy that banned federal officers from using body cameras, according to a memo by Deputy Attorney General, Lisa Monaco.

It says the DOJ will require federal agents to wear and activate cameras whenever encountering the public during pre-planned law enforcement operations.

Such situations may include serving arrest warrants and executing search warrants.

Monaco directed the leaders of federal law enforcement agencies to develop and submit to the Justice Department their own policies in 30 days on how they will use body-worn cameras.

The agencies include the 'Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives,' The Drug Enforcement Administration, the FBI and US Marshals.
