Yuma police arrest man allegedly trying to kidnap 12-year-old boy

UPDATE: Around 6:50 p.m., Yuma Police stated they requested Hill’s release pending further investigation.

A man is behind bars after law enforcement responded to an attempted kidnapping call in Yuma.

Just before 8 a.m. Tuesday, Yuma Police responded to the E. 37th Street and Hinckley Drive area. The suspect, 25-year-old Cody Hill, was driving an older red van. After given a description, officers located the vehicle on the 3600 block of Avenue 8 1/2 E. They performed a traffic stop and Hill was taken into custody. Police say Hill attempted to lure a 12-year-old boy into his vehicle by offering him a cell phone. Hill had fled earlier after the boy refused.

No injuries were reported. Hill was booked into the Yuma County Detention Center for custodial interference. He is not related to the boy.
