Suns take Game 1, Mickelson makes history and more

(KYMA, KECY/ NBC News) - Sunday turned out to be a scene capture and a historic day in the world of sports with round one of the NBA Playoffs and an unforgettable PGA Championship on the green.

While seven other teams hit the floor for Game 1 of their respective playoff series' the Phoenix Suns took center stage on Sunday. Not only was it the first playoff game for the franchise in over a decade, but they are playing host to the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers.

Although there's a long way to go with a 7-game series, the Suns did get off to a good start, taking control on both sides of the floor.

They also added some extra motivation when their veteran leader and point guard, Chris Paul, went down with a shoulder injury in the second quarter. He did return later on as the Suns still handled business.

Devin Booker led the way with 34 points in his first career playoff game and Phoenix pulled away for a 99-90 win.

Meanwhile in the same time frame over in South Carolina, Phil Mickelson was making history. The 50-year-old veteran on the green locked in his 6th major and became the oldest to win a PGA Championship.

Mickelson received a lot of support from the golfing world and more, including a congratulatory tweet from Tiger Woods.

The match-winning putt being the closer to a big Sunday in sports.
