Vehicle collision leaves one with serious injuries
On Saturday, January 27 , 2018 at approximately 5:27 p.m., the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a two vehicle injury collision at the intersection of South Frontage Road and Mesa Avenue Yuma, AZ.
The initial investigation revealed that a grey 2016 Buick Encore was traveling northbound on Mesa Avenue when it failed to yield at the intersection for a grey 2000 Dodge Ram pickup that was traveling eastbound on South Frontage Road. The Dodge Ram struck the Buick Encore after it entered the intersection.
The driver of the Dodge Ram, Emery Amaya, 83, of Yuma, was evaluated on scene and refused medical attention.
The driver of the Buick Encore, Ervine Bayda, 78, of Yuma, was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center by Rural Metro with life threatening injuries. Prior to the arrival of Yuma County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, a passerby had stopped to render aid by performing CPR. Deputies continued CPR until Rural Metro arrived and transferred care of Mr. Bayda.
Alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor in the collision.
